Springfield Armory XDm-45 ACP Pistol

Springfield Armory XDm-45 ACP Pistol
Overall Value55555

Released in 2010, the XDm-45 ACP is a direct response from Springfield Armory to their devoted customer base. The .45 ACP cartridge has seen a huge surge of popularity in recent years regardless of its age because of its common use in 1911 pistols as well as the fact that the round just plain gets the job done.

Considering the rather large amount of 1911s sold by the company it's easy to see why Springfield Armory would quickly bring this gun to market as soon as the XDm platform was released in the most popular 9mm and .40 S&W calibers. As of November 2010, the .45 ACP version of the XDm was limited to the full-size service pistol with no compact or sub-compact variant being offered.

The size of the gun is increased over the already not-so-small dimensions of the XDm-9 and XDm-40 and it is not expected that this gun will see extensive use as a concealed carry piece by those who buy it. Shooters who are practice open carry and are not overly concerned with conealability will probably be seen carrying this gun for self-defense.

This pistol is shipped from the factory with two double-stack 13-round magazines. This means that the gun does not have an increase in capacity when compared with the original XD-45 as is the case with the 9mm and .40 S&W versions of the XDm lineup.

All of the integral safety elements common to the XDm lineup are found on this service pistol including the USA (Ultra Safety Assurance) Safety Trigger, Striker Status Indicator, and Loaded Chamber Indicator are retained.

The 4.5” forged steel barrel of this gun is match grade and mated to a forged steel slide. The barrel is fully supported and the company makes it known that the gun can safety fire +P and even +P+ ammunition. FMJ Ball, JHP, and FMJ Flat Nose ammo is all able to be fired from this gun.

kicks more like a 9 mm,very accurate groupings, easy takedown, enuff rounds to get the job done.not a real conceilable gun but is possible to my opinion xdm and glock are totally differant guns and i wish people would stop comparing them.xdm comes out of the box with so much more than glock, dont get me wrong glock has way more accessories available but out of the box a xdm is the rolls royce compared to glock str8up.if your a broke ass cop buy the glock ok nuffsaid dont shoot yourself in the leg now

Own several weapons. Love my XD 45. Shot a XDm 45 and in 40. To describe the experiences can be summed into simple terms: Like wiping your butt with silk…just that smooth.

Shot a glock, didn’t care much for it and the looks are rather blocky. Plus everyone and their mother has a GLOCK. I choose to be different and with with the XD. Sure there are more aftermarket parts for Glock..but that makes you wonder “why are there so many upgrades to a gun that’s supposedly “the best”" ?

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it

I love my 45 xdm very very accurate out of the box, I have run 500 plus rounds not so much as one miss feed or any other malfunctions! a true quality pistol for your money!

  4. Benjamin says:

The xdm .45 is my 5th handgun and the 3rd chambered in .45. I have run about 1000 rounds through it now and I love it. All the above reviews I agree with very smooth cycling minimal kick and muzzle jump. S&m have really hit a homerun with ergonomics on this one in my opinion every hand and shooter feels a gun just a bit different but the interchangeable backstraps and just the contour overall fits me extremely well. I have learned it’s not about price any more it’s criteria like ergonomics, mag capacity, quality and availability of parts. To me this one meets mine. I have a glock 21 and sig p220 and in my opinion this is a better overall package to me. The accuracy is probably equal in all 3 and I would put my life behind all 3 also but in my opinion that is where the similarities stop. As stated there is no comparison between the xdm and the glock the quality and feel well surpasses glock. Sig sauer on the other hand I have no quams with it is a high quality gun but you pay for it too and mags and everything else costs more as well. Sig should have done something about their mag capacity a long time ago 8 rounds for a full size 45 is a bit scant I think. My sig is the older German model so I haven’t shot one with their new trigger but the xdms trigger blows both the sig and glocks out of the water. Any way I could probably ramble on about this but bottom line I love mine it seems to be about the best mix of price, quality, and all other criteria for me I have yet to talk to any one who has one and complains about anything.

I am a big fan of the 40sw #1 ccw is my CZ40, that being said a fellow shooter keep trying to get me to go with the 45acp. I’m torn between the XD or the XDM. I would like to use it as a ccw. So the xd seem the logical choice. Help , buying both are not in the buget …. but tempting.

  6. Bob Bates says:

I have ran about 5000 rounds through this XDm .45 with a 4.5 barrel and no problems so far. This is the smoothest auto loader I have had to date. I like everything about it! Thanks Springfield Armory for such a fine, reliable handgun!

  7. Garry says:

Well I checked in last in september,I looked at the xd and xdm both chambered in 45acp,walked out the door half hour later with my xdm beaming.Man what a smoooooth shooter.Takes anything I feed it and very accurate and not at all uncomfortable to carry ccw

  8. Shaun says:

Great gun. Love the weight distribution and feel in my hands. Oh fyi the xdm 45 conceals great with a IWB holster

  9. carter says:

love this gun hands down! i own the full size XDm and FNP .45 tactical. i have a hard time determining which one to carry. keep in mind that i’m 5 8 athletic build, so i have had to do the IWB holster. two top ones i’ve found are or raven offers the ability to carry with an attached light of your choice, but takes 16-18 weeks to ship since they make them on order rather than make a bunch and let them sit. blade-tech doesn’t offer that but has a holster that works well with the XDm perfectly. just get the 5 inch barrel holster. i would recommend this gun to anyone! shoots great! did a 13 round rapid fire at 30 feet with standard police circle targets and i kept all 13 dead center. and i shoot 237 out of 240 with the beretta M9 in the military. so i know damn well i could score perfect with this gun. i have had no failures at all with it. and i don’t think i could ever sell it.

Awesome pistol. Eats anything you care to shoot. I use wwb or fed 230gr hardball for target practice, and fed 230 gr hydrashocks for home defense. Carry Sig p938 for traveling, since finding a xds is immpossible at present time.

  11. james says:

best gun youll buy for the money. and a lot of people always have glocks and let me tell u. the xdm .45 is very different, but its way better than any glock out of the box.
